Problem: Globally, we lose $500B in counterfeit goods every year. There are typically two types of anti-counterfeit solutions: easy to verify, easy to clone OR hard to verify and hard to clone. QuantumTags aims to merge the two, creating a solution that is easy to verify but hard to clone.
Solution: This two-part solution includes nanotech and deep learning. → (1) Nanotech: quantum dots (QDs) emit light when light is shone upon them. Each quantum dot is unique and they are unclonable as QDs are created off of atomic randomness, meaning no attacker can replicate these QDs, their emitted light or their placement or their patterns. So, one layer of the nanochips will have a unique arrangement and light distribution of QDs.
→ (2) Deep learning: the end user can scan the chip with their smartphone and the app will run the emitted light with all other scanned chips on the database. If there’s a match, the product is not counterfeit.
Progress: Presented in front of 300+ at Microsoft Headquarters and prototyped for ~4 months with SmartXChange Europe.
